PANJIM: Goa Police are yet to decide whether to challenge the bail given to five persons accused in a prostitution racket by a Panjim court last month. The five were arrested by the Women Police Station Panjim in a prostitution raid on June 9 at Bambolim.
A senior Police officer said the accused got bail and there is no major reason to challenge the bail, but PI Sudiksha Naik said the decision to challenge the bail is yet to be taken. She said all five accused were bailed after 12 days of police custody and 6 days of judicial custody.
Goa Police had busted a high profile prostitution racket allegedly operated by one Anand Kumar alias Andy resident of Ribandar and native of Mumbai. Along with him four others were arrested and were identified as Naga Pramodh Kumar alias Dumbu (23) from Andhra Pradesh, Indradev (19), Ramudesh (24) and Santosh (22), all three from Bihar.
Anand Kumar is the main accused and was wanted by Goa Police in five such cases (prostitution) registered at different police stations.
ARZ that has been working for the rehabilitation of rescued women alleged that the accused go free because the police either don’t tell the court the accused are habitual offenders or they may not be aware of this. ARZ President Arun Pandey said most of the accused after bail go free in the absence of special courts for speedy trials. “Goa should have a special court to deal with such cases.”
