Policemen spell doom for Dhoom-like bike ‘thieves’

PANJIM: An attempt to emulate reel life bike freaks like in Yash Chopra's flick Dhoom was punctured by alert cops in Panjim on Sunday.

The law keepers put a brake on some unidentified youngsters’ bid to hold a ‘bike rally’ in the capital city and seized 12 motorcycles. Some of these bikes, the police said, had tampered chasis numbers. The bikers had also worked on the original templates of the engines, the cops reported.
PI Jivba Dalvi said silencers of eight bikes were modified while two bikes were fitted with high-decibel horns. “A mechanic was summoned to the police station, who examined the seized mean machines. It was found that some engine numbers and chasis numbers were not original. Whereas the number plates of some bikes were not clear,” he further said.
Panjim police will now write to the Transport department to inquire into the matter and submit a report for further investigation. “Once the owners of these vehicles are ascertained, they will be summoned for questioning,” Dalvi said adding that inquiry so far revealed that the youth had planned to carry out a bike rally from Panjim city to Aguada. “They had plans to disturb the traffic causing nuisance on roads. We will keep an eye on such activities,” he said.
However, the cops did not mention the makes of these bikes.
The police also suspect that the bikers may have planned daring stunts on the streets putting citizens’ lives at risk.
