Political Earthquake on the horizon

The Congress party feels the absence of governance has resulted in a collapse of the administration

PANJIM: Congress party on Wednesday said that they could foresee a political earthquake as there is discontent within the ruling coalition led by Manohar Parrikar. Addressing media persons, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesperson Ramakant Khalap reiterated the demand that Governor Dr Mridula Sinha should withdraw her pleasure in the continuance of Chief Minister Parrikar and his council of Ministers as there is a total collapse of the administration.
“Council has not been meeting and nobody is talking about Goa economy. Government does not talk about unemployment, no one talking about fuel price rise or Mhadei issue. These are some of the serious issues confronting the state, which are ignored,” Khalap said.
“Over this, there is already displeasure, discontent amongst the members of ruling coalition. Political earthquake will happen on its own as there are genuine cause,” he said. “And if political earthquake really takes place not only the Government of Goa will be buried under the debris but a common man without any responsible alternative will face the burnt,” senior congress leader said.
“We come back to our demand that there has been total collapse of the administration and therefore it is time for the Governor to withdraw her pleasure in the continuance of CM Parrikar and his council of ministers,” Khalap added. He said that State comes back to situation that congress party was single largest party entitled to form the Government and, if that democratic process had allowed, the current situation would have never been aroused.
When asked about the recent political development that came to effect from AIIMS, where Parrikar is admitted, Khalap said “why only two were shunted? A sensible leader would take sensible steps…proactive… democratic steps’. “Now if he does not want to do that what we can call it a democracy. And if his Delhi bosses don’t respond can we expect to describe that govt as democratic,” he said. Congress leader expressed his sympathy towards former Minister Francis D’Souza and Pandurang Madkaikar, who are shunted out of cabinet on medical grounds.
