PANJIM: Several members of the Goa Legislative Assembly offered their condolences to the family of former speaker Surendra Sirsat and paid tributes to his legacy on Tuesday.
This was during the obituary reference at the final session of the Assembly session. Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, Mapusa MLA Joshua De Souza, former Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane recalled Sirsat’s contributions to Goa and spoke highly about who he was as a person and how he helped one and all.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also mentioned that he paid a condolence visit to Sirsat’s family at his residence in Mapusa and had given a floral wreath as well.
He added that his demise is a great loss to the society and the State.
“His contribution in the field of education and public life is immense, and shall always be remembered.”
Speaker Rajesh Patnekar also praised the values of the former MLA.
He also announced that the condolences messages made by the members of the House would be conveyed to the members of the bereaved family. He also asked the members to observe a minute of silence as a mark of respect to the late Sirsat.
Many of the MLAs like Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat also shared condolence messages on their official social media accounts.
Joshua, who was present with Sawant at the condolence visit, said, “Deeply pained to hear about the passing away of Surendra Sirsat Ji. A great teacher, legislator, journalist and a very good human being loved by all. His contribution to the State, Mapusa and its people will truly be cherished.”
Goa Forward Party President Sardesai said, “Saddened by the demise of Surendra Sirsat. His contributions to our polity and society are invaluable.”
