MARGAO: In view of the Model Code of Conduct in force for the Lok Sabha elections, the Benaulim Village panchayat could not discuss and pass any resolution pertaining to the developmental works, however, an annual budget was passed at the meeting on Sunday.
At the same time, taking into consideration the important issues, the panchayat has made budgetary provisions for the development of Dando football ground, besides land to be purchased for the fish market in the village.
This is the second panchayat after Varca from the coastal Salcete, which faced restriction in order to discuss and pass any resolution with regard to developmental works in the village due to Model Code of Conduct.
In March, even a flying squad was rushed at the venue of the gram sabha called by the Varca Village Panchayat, asking not to pass any proposal on
the development works which will lead to violations of the code of conduct.
Benaulim sarpanch Xavier Pereira, said that panchayat has not accepted any proposal of developmental works due to Code of Conduct, but discussion was held only on annual budget.
The Panchayat had made budgetary provisions for the development of Dando ground, which is one of the main works in the list. The process with regard to survey of the land is on and very soon it will be completed, the Sarpanch said.
Gram sabha members at the meeting suggested making budgetary provision relating to the land for fish market.
Sarpanch said that all the suggestions made by the villagers will be taken into consideration.
