Polling staff to vote at facilitation centres

PANJIM: The staff deployed for Lok Sabha election duty will now have to cast their votes at designated facilitation centres only and will not be allowed to keep the ballot papers with them for long.

According to the Election Commission, all personnel on poll duty will have to cast their postal ballots at the facilitation centres only latest by May 5 i.e. before the polling which is slated in the State for May 7. Such facilitation centres will be set up at every RO level when polling agents of political parties and candidates will also be permitted at the to ensure transparency.

In the previous elections postal ballot voters had to cast their ballots by mail rather than in person at a polling station. The Election Commission has recently tweaked the rules in this regards and introduced the concept of voting through polling centres so as to stop misuse of the postal ballot facility given to staff deployed for poll duty.
