Dairy chairman Madhav Sahkari whose 12 member panel is contesting the election, hoped that his panel would emerge victorious because of the decisions taken by his administration in the interest of Goa Dairy and farmers.
While the opposition panel which was formed recently against the ruling group too was hoping of getting majority of its 12 members elected on BOD of Goa Dairy. Durgesh Shirodkar of opposition panel told Herald that since 100 per cent voting was held, we hope that it is for parivartan in the interest of Goa Dairy.
Goa Dairy which had a monopoly as largest milk supplier in Goa was in focuss since last year after entry of SUMUL in Goa. Its election has gained importance since last year as it was shrouded in controversy over the issue as to who was responsible for the entry of SUMUL in Goa. Some farmers blamed the Government for SUMUL’s entry while some were happy that competetion would give them better quality.
However, Goa Dairy management claimed that due to better schemes and decisions in the interest of farmers, it was successful in bringing back around more than 50 per cent farmers who had crossed over to SUMUL.
The sitting chairman also claimed that they were in a position to counter the challenge of SUMUL. However,  the farmers who are also Milk Society Chairmen were irked and formed the Goa Dairy Bachao Panel and recently addressed the media. They alleged that Goa Dairy had made huge losses due to poor managment.
