PONDA: Blooming with pink and white lotuses, the highly polluted nullah in Ponda has become a centre of attraction. The nullah stretches over 500 metres from Khadpaband to Kavlem.
The beautiful view of lotus bloom can be seen from a culvert over the nullah on Dhavlim-Farmagudi bypass near Khadpabandh.
According to locals, release of sewage into the nullah has made it a fertile ground for the lotus.
Once upon a time, the nullah was the lifeline for farmers who cultivated paddy using water from the water body.
But since past two decades due to urbanisation, all types of waste is released into the nullah due to which it has become highly polluted and many of farmers at Bandora and Kavlem, scared of using the water due to health hazards, have kept their paddy fields fallow.
