Pollution Board invites fresh application for chairman

PANJIM: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has invited fresh applications from the interested and eligible candidate for the post of chairman after failing to get the desired candidate from within the department.

The-year-long term of the Board under Chairman Ganesh Shetgaonkar ended in December, last year. The government has granted six months extension to the incumbent Board.

The sources revealed that total eight applied for the post of chairman. However, only three candidates fulfilled age criteria of 56 years. Hence, it was decided that fresh advertisement, calling for more applications be issued.

Accordingly, the Environment Department issued fresh advertisement for the post with the last date for applying being May 31. The department has said that those who applied earlier, as per the advertisement issued in October, 2020, need not apply again.

The knowledge of environmental sciences and environmental management has been made mandatory. The candidate has to also be a resident of Goa for at least 15 years, and the knowledge of Konkani is mandatory while that of Marathi is desirable.

According to the new guidelines, there would be 19-member Board instead of 16 members that includes chairperson, member secretary and 17 members to be nominated by the State government to represent interest of agriculture, fishery or industry or trade and local authorities functioning within the State.
