Today, the Pollution Control Board conducted an inspection of the garbage dump on the Western Bypass, highlighting concerns over the disposal of waste in the area. During the inspection, it was revealed that the dump contained garden waste and a mixture of other waste materials.
The Junior Engineer from the Pollution Control Board stated, “We have found garden waste and some mixed waste at the site. We will issue a notice to Margao Municipality, instructing them not to dump waste on the Western Bypass. The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) should take measures to treat garden waste in their facility at Sonsodo.”
The inspection comes in the wake of public outrage and concerns raised by locals about the improper disposal of waste, emphasizing the need for responsible waste management practices. The Pollution Control Board’s intervention aims to ensure that municipal regulations are followed and that waste is treated appropriately to prevent environmental hazards.
This development underscores the importance of coordinated efforts between municipal authorities and regulatory bodies to address waste management challenges and maintain environmental standards.
