Pomburpa-Ecoxim VP, locals inspect hill cutting site in NDZ

Villagers vow to oppose 140 villa project tooth and nail

MAPUSA:  The Pomburpa-Ecoxim village panchayat along with locals and Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira conducted the site inspection where the alleged 140 villas are coming up in the No Development Zone and forest areas.

During the site inspection, it was observed that there was hill cutting in the area and tar road was constructed to reach the site. As per the regional plan, some parts of the property falls under the no development zone while the other area comes under private forest. As per the plan, around 48,000 sq mts of land was marketed as future development.

“When we had questioned the panchayat about the project, they were uncooperative and responded saying there was just a single villa coming up there. Now during site inspection it is observed that hill cutting is being carried out and a road was constructed deep into the forest. If any local wants to construct a small house, he is made to run from pillar to post but the non Goans can easily get all permissions,” said Fadte, a local from the area.

“There are natural springs, worship sites in the area. If we don’t put a stop to this today then our villages and forest cover will disappear.  We appeal to the people to united and fight,” added Fadte

Meanwhile, the panchayat has assured the villagers to issue a stop work order  to the project. Anger was brewing among locals over the illegal hill cutting and destruction of forest in Pomburpa.
