PONDA: Issues pertaining to garbage, poor infrastructure and medical facilities, water scarcity and unemployment have taken centre stage, as 27 candidates have to address these problems as they battle it out for the seven ZP constituencies in Ponda taluka.
In Usgao ZP constituency, there is an urgent need of a public crematorium at Tisk-Usgao, where a large number of migrants and locals are settled, given the hardships faced by locals in conducting the final rites of their departed ones.
For the Curti ZP constituency, garbage is a major problem. “Garbage is strewn around on roadsides and bypass roads,” complains a local, Sandesh Naik. “A mini-garbage treatment plant is the need of hour.”
In Savoi-Verem ZP constituency, water scarcity and the long-pending demand for the new Khandepar bridge.
The Kavlem constituency also suffers from erratic water supply, narrow road at Durbhat-Agapur, unemployment issues, parking problems and poor toilet facilities at the famous Shantadurga temple in Kavlem are the main issues confronting candidates in the ZP polls here.
In Veling-Priol there is a need to upgrade the Marcaim Health Centre.
