PANJIM: With COVID-19 scare looming large and “pujaris” (priests) restricting themselves from visiting homes to perform rituals, an online “puja” initiative has been launched on the eve of the festival month Shravan by Ponda-based religious centre – Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth.

The move has been welcomed by State Government, with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant appealing people to take benefit of the initiative during the entire month, which will be followed by Ganesh Festival.

The initiative of Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth offers online puja for festivals like Shravan Somvar, Nag Panchami, Satyanarayan Puja, etc, which are held in the month of Shravan.

Supporting the move, Chief Minister urged people to take benefit of online puja service during the festival. “Due to COVID, pujaris are reluctant to visit homes; but we cannot sacrifice the religious ceremonies,” he said.

“In view of this, I welcome the initiate taken by the Padmanabh Sampraday to start the online puja service. This will give us a feel that there is a pujari by our side to help assist with all rituals and observances,” Sawant added.
