Ponda civic body provides relief to women vendors by putting one toilet block to use

PONDA: Taking cognisance of a O Heraldo report highlighting the hardship caused to women vendors from the Ponda market in absence of toilet facility, the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) at last provided the much-needed relief to these vendors by putting one of six toilet blocks to use.

It is pertinent to note that the PMC directed the contractor to complete a toilet block and put the same to use for vendors. The vendors are now using this toilet facility.

It may be recalled that O Heraldo in its December 12 edition had published a report highlighting the hardship caused to women vendors for the past two months due to renovation work on toilet complex moving at a snail’s pace without making any alternative arrangement.

Following this, the PMC officials discussed the issue with the contractor and of the six toilet blocks, one block was completed and put to use for vendors.

President of the vendors association Gharu Sawant thanked PMC officials and O Heraldo for highlighting the issue.
