PONDA: The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) on Thursday decided to initiate action against owners of the abandoned vehicles.
Speaking to mediapersons after the PMC meeting, Chairperson Ritesh Naik said before taking legal action, PMC will issue notices to owners who have abandoned their vehicles at prime locations. If they fail to respond then these vehicles will be seized and auctioned.
Stating that PMC has already identified around 22 abandoned vehicles, he said the municipality is planning to launch a pay parking system for which a notification will be issued for clearing the abandoned vehicles occupying prime spaces.
Naik said these abandoned vehicles will be seized and will be kept on PMC land near municipal garden till their disposal in a legal manner. With regards to the vehicles abandoned near Ponda Police Station, the matter will be discussed with Traffic and Ponda police personnel before taking any action, as some of these are involved in accidents and cases are pending in courts.
He said that a parking base will be created with hotmix carpeting of the area near demolished space of Shastri Hall building.
Naik said the council’s Rs 36.22 crore surplus budget for 2024-25 was approved at the meeting.
He informed that the authorities have approved the master plan for the town and as per this plan in the first phase PMC is planning a garden and food court.
Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik said that to solve the stray dog issue, the PMC is planning to construct a dog shelter near Curti where dogs will sterilised and called upon the pet owners to vaccinate their dogs with anti-rabies vaccine. To solve the stray cattle menace, he said that a goushala has been constructed at Bethora.
