PONDA: Ponda police took into their custody a 30-year-old person for causing fear in Ponda city by damaging six vehicles and injuring some people, on Saturday.
Ponda PI Harish Madcaikar said that the person taken into police custody was found mentally unsound, as such, he has been sent to Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour at Bambolim. “The person appears to be a non-Goan; he speaks only Hindi,” the PI said.
Ponda residents ran helter-skelter when a person, later taken into custody by police, suddenly started throwing metal sheets from roof top of a building in the city. The sheets had been installed to prevent water leakage during the monsoons.
Incidentally, some bricks had been stored below the sheets; after exhausting the sheets, the mentally unsound person started throwing the bricks which hit the windshields of four cars damaging them. Two two-wheelers were also damaged in the brick pelting, while the riders suffered minor injuries.
Later, a group of people caught hold of the stone pelter and handed him over to the police. During questioning, the mentally unsound person was not even able to tell his name, police said.
