Ponda council chief poll today

The election to elect new chairperson of Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) will be held in the council premises on Tuesday. It may be recalled that Shailendra Shinkre had resigned from the chairperson’s post claiming that the chair was not respected by the council members.
Shinkre had also demanded an action against one of the council members, failing which he had vowed to resign from the chair. He subsequently resigned, as no action was taken.
Sources in PMC informed that the ruling council members after a consensus have agreed to elect Pradip Naik as the chairperson.
Sources claimed that the outgoing chairperson Shailendra Shinkre resigned following a consensus between the ruling group. Incidentally, the new chairperson will be the fourth chairperson during the current tenure. Earlier, Sanjay Naik, Venkatesh Naik and Shailendra Shinkre have served as the chairperson.
