PONDA: Citing law and order problems, the Ponda deputy collector has denied permission for the anti-Sanatan as well as the pro-Sanatan morchas on October 11. Bandora locals, while upset over the development, are firm on holding the public meeting as scheduled.
Deputy Collector Johnson Fernandes said that the National Hindu Movement (NHM), on Thursday, sought permission to hold a pro-Sanatan rally on the same day as the anti-Sanatan morcha. Fearing that the two groups would clash, he denied permission for both morchas. He had also taken into consideration the fact that there will be no police around on that day due to the ISL match at Fatorda stadium.
The Bandora locals’ morcha against Sanatan Sanstha was to be held from Ramnathi to Kapileshwari, while the NHM’s rally to support Sanatan was to be held at the Ponda bus stand.
Meanwhile, Ramnathi Yuva Sangh president Saurabh Lotlikar said that all permissions had been obtained for the public meeting, which will be held at the private Ramnath Devasthan ground. He stated that nobody can stop meetings on private land, but only the use of a mike, for which they will take permission from the mamlatdar. He added that meeting will take place without the mike if the mamlatdar denied permission.
Those expected to speak at the public meeting include: St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, writer Pundalik Naik, Jawahar Barve, Christopher Fonseca, Nagesh Karmali, N Shivdas, Adv Suhas Naik, Adv Raju Mangeshkar, Swati Kerkar, Valmiki Naik, Govind Gawde, Kamlakar Malshi, Ramesh Gawas, Yadneshwar Nigale, Rajan Ghate, Sudeep Tamankar, Adv Zateen Naik, Adv Varad Mardolkar, Jyothi Cuncolekar and Dadu Madrekar.
