PANJIM: The Panjim Police arrested two persons from Ponda for allegedly breaking glass of a car and committing theft of valuables worth Rs 9 lakh near Panjim Church.
According to the police, on December 9, one Sridhar Reddy Puli (32) from Hyderabad, Telangana, lodged a complaint stating that between 11.30 pm of December 7 and 4.20 am of December 8, 2023, he had parked a car, which he had taken on rent, near Panjim Church. The glass of rear door of the car was broken and two Macbook laptops, two sunglasses, a hairdryer, chappals, one passport (belonging to the friend of the complainant), wallet containing different cards and other items such as perfume, phone chargers, earphones etc and cash of Rs two lakh, all worth Rs nine lakh, were missing.
A case under Sections 379 and 427 of the IPC was registered against the unknown person/s and investigation started.
Panjim PI Nikhil Palekar along with LIB team, after putting all out efforts, managed to get the lead in the case by analysing CCTV footage in and around the crime spot and found footage of one car passing from the crime spot and proceeding towards Church Square.
After a thorough effort, the Panjim Police staff managed to get the registration number of the vehicle, which led to the arrest of the accused.
The accused were identified as Hyder (30), a driver, resident of nearby Housing Board, Bethora, Ponda and Nizamuddin (24), resident of Kejan-Bethora, Ponda. The stolen property worth Rs seven lakh and the vehicle used for commission of the crime have been recovered by the police.
The team which succeeded in the apprehending the accused comprised PI Nikhil Palekar, PSI Sanket Pokhre, head constable Nitin Gaonkar and constables Ermiya Gurraya, Sayesh Uskaikar, Aditya Mardolkar, Sadanand Malik and driver/police constable Vikas Naik and police constable/ driver Sonu Gawas, under the guidance of Panjim DySP Sudesh Naik and overall guidance of officiating SP North, Akshat Kaushal.
