PONDA: A shortage of nurses is hindering the process to start a paediatric ward at the Ponda Sub District Hospital which was inaugurated in December last year.
According to sources, though 75 nurses have been sanctioned, the hospital presently has 38 nurses and the rest are on deputation at health centres.
Dr M Mohandas, Medical Superintendent of Ponda Sub District Hospital, said he has already written to authorities concerned, explaining the need to depute more nurses.
Dr Mohandas was replying to media queries on the sidelines of the concluding function of a 21-day personality development programme.
