PONDA: The Ponda Health Centre had issued notices to 108 houses in Ponda town and its surrounding villages. The health centre has asked them to immediately disconnect the pipes releasing domestic waste into nullahs and river in their respective locality.
The domestic waste released into the nullahs and river has polluted the water bodies.
Several houses in Ponda town areas have been found to be releasing domestic waste into nullahs, which later joins with Zuari River. The health department had asked them to stop the pollution of water bodies and instead asked them to construct pits in their residential area to dispose domestic waste.
The nullah water was once used by over 300 farmers but now most of them are keeping their paddy fields fallow fearing a health hazard.
Several house owners at Adpoi in Durbhat Agapur Panchayat, Bandora, Talavlim, Bethora and Curti have also been issued similar notices.
Though the Health Department has asked Adpoi locals to construct pits for releasing waste water, they are facing hardship due to lack of space.
