Ponda local convicted for stocking gutkha

The Judicial Magistrate First Class, Ponda Ms Pooja C Kavlekar convicted Pandari P Naik of Kavle-Ponda for stocking and distribution of gutkha under Section 87A Read with Section 87F of Goa Public Health (Amendment) Act 2005 to undergo simple imprisonment of 6 months and to pay fine of Rs 10,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo imprisonment of 7 days. The said judicial order was pronounced in open court on November 20, 2010.
The case of prosecution was that the accused Pandari Naik of Betalwada, Kavlem, Ponda was found stocking and distributing gutkha which contains tobacco and which is injurious in terms of Section 87A of Goa Public Health (Amendment) Act 2005. The prosecution case was filed by Food Inspector Rajiv Korde and assisted by Assistant Public Prosecutor C Rodrigues.
