BICHOLIM: A 57-year-old man from Ponda and his 12-year-old nephew, who had gone for a swim in the Valvanti River at Virdi, Sankhali drowned, on Saturday evening.
According to Bicholim police, the deceased have been identified as Rajendra Kudalkar of Bandora-Ponda and Sparsh Sanjay Naik, 12, a resident of Kundaim, Ponda. The tragedy came to light when the family members tried to search the duo as they did not return home and noticed the bodies floating in the river.
Though hailed from Bandora, Kudalkar was residing at Virdi, while Sparsh had been staying with Kudalkar for the last two months since his mother was ill.
The Bicholim police conducted the panchanama and sent the bodies to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, for post-mortem examination. PSI Anil Polekar is conducting the probe under the guidance of Bicholim PI Suraj Gawas.
