Ponda locals frustrated as Sewerage Corp digs up freshly laid road

PONDA: Ponda residents have expressed frustration over the Sewerage Corporation’s repeated digging of roads for sewerage work, which they believed was complete- after six long years of being subject to dusty, dug-up roads. Locals have called on the department to complete its work at one shot, to avoid putting them through further hardships.

The recently hotmixed road near the Ponda Police Station has been dug up again, to the chagrin of commuters and locals. Even after the inauguration of the 15 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant last month, excavation of roads is still taking place in some areas. The road was dug up in two places near the Mount Carmel Chapel in Ponda town.

According to local Agustin Fernandes, “The hotmix carpeting of this road was done recently, but it has now been dug up again, causing inconvenience to devotees visiting the chapel. Even the last time, the road was dug on the occasion of Good Friday, but it was swiftly covered up by the workers to avoid inconvenience to devotees. Now, the Feast at the Chapel will be celebrated on May 7, and the Sewerage Department should ensure that devotees will not face hardship,” asserted Fernandes. “ The workers should not repeatedly dig up our roads; it is a blatant waste of public money. The department should execute its work with proper planning,” he added.
