PONDA: Panic was rife in Varbhat-Bandora, Kavlem after a family claimed that their two pet dogs were killed by a leopard here. “The big cat not only killed our pets but ate them up as well and then rested in the balcony,” said Umesh Naik.
The leopard’s movements were captured on all the CCTV cameras installed around the house. This incident took place in residential area and has spread fear not only among the family but also among the neighbours and villagers too.
The family stated that they informed the Forest Department about the incident and have urged them to trap the big cat before it could do more damage in the area.
Umesh’s sister Sharmila briefing the media about incident stated that the leopard killed and ate both their pet dogs and added that the incident was recorded on CCTV cameras installed around their house.
“The leopard entered the backyard on Saturday at around 12. 15 am and took away one our pet dog, while on the previous night it had killed the other canine while it was sitting in the balcony.
Another family member Utkarsha said that they fear for the safety of the three little children at home and has urged the Forest department to catch the animal at the earliest. The locals said in the past, they spotted a leopard stalking the area at nights on Bandora-Kavalem Panchayat border.
