PONDA: Ponda residents on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Medical Superintendent of Sub- District Hospital Dr Vikas Kuvlekar demanding CT scan, MRI machine and other emergency medical equipment at the hospital to help save precious lives.
The locals were accompanied by councillor Geetali Naik, former councillor Shivanand Sawant, MGP leader Dr Ketan Bhatikar and others
The locals said, “It’s been seven years since the inauguration of the Sub-District Hospital at Ponda but, despite the status, the locals are forced to rely on Goa Medical College and Hospital for emergency services.”
Besides CT scan, they also demanded a blood bank, new ambulances and special department for cardiac and new surgeries.
Dr Bhatikar said, “As Ponda is centrally located, the people from neighbouring talukas also depend on the sub-district hospital and since it lacks emergency services, the patients are forced to travel to GMC.”
Ponda locals said, “If the government provides emergency medical equipment including CT scan it would not only reduce burden on GMC but will also help in saving lives of accident victims and those suffering from various ailments.”
Dr Kuvelkar admitted that the facilities such as CT scan are essential and assured to put forth their demands before the government.
