PONDA: Over 10,000 handcrafted rakhis prepared by special students of Lokvishwas Pratishtan in Dhavali are set to strengthen the bond of brothers and sisters this Rakshabandhan, celebrated on Monday, August 19.
The students from the Lokvishwas Pratishtan Special School in Ponda have created these beautiful and attractive rakhis, which are in high demand. Reports indicate that over 8,000 rakhis have already been sold!
Under the guidance of professional trainers, including Poonam and other dedicated teachers, the differently-abled students have designed a variety of rakhis at prices lower than those found in the market. Various institutions in the taluka have showcased these rakhis, receiving an overwhelming response from the community, with many purchasing them in large quantities.
The school expressed its gratitude to everyone who has supported the students by buying their rakhis. The teachers emphasized the importance of employment for special children after they turn 18, focusing on their abilities rather than their disabilities. They aim to empower these students to become self-sufficient and earn a livelihood. In addition to rakhis during Rakshabandhan, the students also create diyas, akashkandils, paper bags, envelopes, paper flowers, and bouquets for Diwali.
The community has shown tremendous support for the beautiful rakhis made by these special children, and a portion of the profits is shared with them.
Lokvishwas Chairman Anup Priolkar highlighted that, with the initiative of the Social Welfare Department, training programs for special children at the daycare center have been a significant success. The children take great interest in making a variety of rakhis, showcasing their creativity and talent.
