PONDA: To meet the December 31 deadline, residents of Ponda have complained that they have been compelled to stand in long queues in the scorching heat at Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) agencies to complete the ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) process.
The residents further complained that they are fed up with the deadlines and procedures and felt as ‘immigrants’ in their own country.
A senior citizen who was standing in a queue said that he was forced to wear a helmet on account of the scorching heat.
Hitting out at the government for setting such deadlines, Viraj Sapre, a social worker, said the government should not create panic among citizens. “Senior citizens were standing in a queue in the hot sun to complete the KYC process. They should not be forced to do it,” he said.
He questioned who shall be held responsible if any citizen standing in the queue faints or an untoward incident occurs. He said that the government should direct the LPG agencies to withdraw the deadline and complete the procedure as and when consumers book for cylinder refilling.
Echoing similar sentiment, Vishal Fadte, a resident of Ponda, said that citizens should not be compelled to repeatedly stand in queues.
On Wednesday, long queues of consumers, especially senior citizens, were witnessed in Ponda at the Bharat Gas and HP agencies to link their Aadhaar cards.
They questioned why they are forced to stand in queues to link Aadhaar cards for various services.
Stating that people are forced to stand in queues by taking leave, Sapre alleged that politicians roam in luxury vehicles and people are compelled to stand in hot sun.
He said at least the government should set up a shade in front of the gas agencies.
The people questioned as to why they are forced to make online payments.
