PONDA: The dumping of all types of waste including industrial, domestic, and market has turned the Ponda main nullah into an eyesore.
The nullah, which flows from Bethora, Curti, Ponda town, Kavlem and Bandora villages is full of garbage including plastic bags, bottles, domestic waste, etc, in its basin at Kavlem.
One can bear witness to this unpleasant site while commuting on the culvert along the Dhavlim—Farmagudi bypass.
Stating that the waste from Bethora and Curti flows through nullah, the locals demanded that the Goa State Pollution Control Board inspect the nullah basin at Bethora, Curti and Ponda Municipal jurisdiction and initiate suitable action.
Meanwhile, Kavlem Panchayat Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar urged the concerned authorities to clear the nullah which is filled with garbage at Kavlem, leading to overflowing and water flooding into houses and paddy fields.
Rajesh further asked the Irrigation Department to clean the nullah before the arrival of monsoon.
The department officials said the estimate for desilting nullah is ready and the file waiting for approval.
