The work on desiltation of Ponda main nullah flowing from Ponda Muncipal Council (PMC ), Curti and Kavlem area has began. Herald had highlighted about nullah filled with garbage in its 27 May edition highlighting the need to desilt the nullah as it is leading to flooding in various panchayat area.
Herald had highlighted how nullah was filled with plastic waste, garbage, bottles, domestic waste causing nuisance to public, flooding the houses by the side of nullah. The Kavlem Panchayat and PMC had written to WRD for cleaning of nullah.

PMC Chairperson Shantaram Kolvekar confirmed the commence of desiltation work and said 70 per cent of cleaning work of main nullah completed and rest would complete soon.
He also said PMC had also started pre-monsoon works in municipal area including cleaning of gutters and desiltation of internal nullah with help of 20 labourers and PMC workers. The work in ward 12 and 5 of PMC would also commence soon.
