PONDA: A resident of Shantinagar in Ponda shot and seriously injured his younger sibling over property and coconuts plucking dispute, on Saturday.
According to Ponda Police Inspector Harish Madkaikar, the accused Gokuldas Dangui had hired a worker to pluck coconuts in the bagayat located behind their house. However, Gokuldas’ younger brother Sharad objected to the same which led to an altercation and the latter pelted stones at the accused causing him minor injuries.
Following this, in a fit of anger, Gokuldas (50) shot Sharad (42) with his revolver from close range. The victim was seriously injured in the firing and taken to the Sub-District Hospital at Ponda by his family members. Later, he was shifted to Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim by the police.
Doctors at the GMC operated and extracted the bullet from Sharad’s body. It is learnt that the younger brother is in a serious condition and kept under observation in the ICU.
PI Madkaikar said the accused was arrested immediately. An offence was registered against Gokuldas for an attempt to murder under Section 307. Gokuldas revolver, which was licensed, was also seized.
According to Ponda police the incident took place around 9 am on Saturday.
