PONDA: With just two days left for Ganesh Chaturthi, the market in Ponda on Sunday saw hordes of people rushing to the market to make purchases, especially for ‘Matoli’.
The local hog plums which are primarily used for Matoli and also to make various dishes during the Chaturthi were seen missing. Hence, the Goans this time will have to rely on plums that come from the neighbouring states. The flowers too, have come mostly from the neighbouring state this time and are easily available in the Ponda market.
Trucks loaded with fruits, flowers and vegetables were seen in the market in Ponda in the early morning. The vendors have kept the stock ready as the demand in the next two days will only increase. The traffic police have been deployed on both sides of the roads and the flow of the traffic has been slightly tweaked to accommodate more vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Banastari bazaar held especially for Chaturthi saw a tremendous response from the buyers on Sunday. The seasonal market was visited by people from Ponda, Tiswadi, Bicholim and Sattari as the materials required for Matoli are priced reasonably here.
