Ponda Market’s Female Vendors Facing Hardship Amid Ongoing Toilet Complex Renovation

Vendors, mainly women, conducting business within the bustling Ponda fruit and vegetable market, have voiced their inconvenience over the absence of toilet facilities for the past month. Renovation and repair work on the existing toilets have been ongoing, leaving vendors and visitors without accessible facilities. The Ponda Municipal Council’s authorities did not provide alternative arrangements, causing hardship, particularly for female vendors.

Garu Sawant highlighted the issue, stating that while male vendors manage somehow, women are facing severe difficulties due to the unavailability of nearby toilets. He proposed relocating the existing bio-toilets at the entrance of the market to a spot closer to the market shed, providing essential relief to women vendors.

In response to the situation, Chief Officer Shubam Naik assured that within two days, the PMC would make one toilet block ready to alleviate the hardship faced by women vendors.
