PONDA: The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) Chief Officer Yogiraj Gosavi on Tuesday along with municipal inspectors conducted inspections of around 25 residential-cum-commercial buildings and imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 per apartment for releasing sewage into the gutters and openings, causing a nuisance to locals.
These buildings are located near the Old Bus Stand and Upper Bazaar Market etc.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Officer said while launching pre-monsoon work, the officials noticed that the gutters meant for rainwater were choked with waste and sewage water.
The officer further said that residents also complained about the hardships they faced due to the stinking nuisance and then the PMC issued notices to the residential societies to repair their septic tanks and soak pits to which they did not pay heed.
The residents have now been directed to stop the nuisance and the civic body has warned the violators that if they don’t fall in line, then the water supply to the residential complexes would be disconnected.
