PONDA: The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) is set to revamp the local crematorium Muktidham Crematorium at Varkhandem, for which the foundation stone was laid by PMC Chairperson Ritesh Naik on Wednesday, in presence of Vice Chairperson Archana Dangi and other councillors.

Speaking on the occasion Ritesh Naik said the Crematorium was lying in dilapidated condition.

“It was a long pending demand from locals of Ponda asking for the renovation of crematorium. People from not only within the PMC jurisdiction, but from the entire taluka use it for performing final rites. Rs 1.19 crore would be spent on renovation and repair work. The work includes providing various facilities including parking. The work would be completed within a year,” Naik said.
