Ponda RTO collects Rs 1.90 cr in fines in 2022

PONDA: The Ponda RTO has collected a staggering amount of Rs 1,90,72,550 through fines from January 2022 till December 2022.

A total of 44,925 motorists were fined for violating the traffic rules over the past one year, a decrease by about 12,000 as in the year before (2021), 56,988 motorists were fined to the tune of Rs 71,23,150.

Courtesy to the strict implementation of traffic rules in 2022, the authorities collected Rs 1,19,49,400 more compared to the amount collected in 2021.

As per the information given by Ponda RTO Police Inspector Krishna Sinari, 2,076 motorists were fined for over speeding, 6,229 for not wearing helmet, 139 for driving without a licence, 7,193 for parking in dangerous manner, 5,039 for having tinted glasses, 3,551 for not wearing seat-belt, 4,380 for entering in no entry area, 479 for overtaking in wrong manner, 107 for speaking on phone while driving, 143 for drunk driving and 1,008 for driving without a number plate among other violators.

“The strict implementation of traffic rules has led to a huge jump in revenue collection through fines. We hold awareness campaigns in schools and receive very positive feedback from the students,” said Sinari.

Meanwhile, the Ponda Traffic Police have only two operational alcometers which leads to long delays in checking the motorists.
