PONDA: The controversy over the organisation of the Shigmostav festival in Ponda has erupted this year as well, with the Ponda Taluka Antruz Shigmostav Samiti determined to celebrate the festival in March.
The decision was taken in a meeting under the chairmanship of former minister Ravi Naik at Shigmostav Samiti hall, Tisk-Ponda.
The committee appointed last year has been retained and the next meeting will chalk out the programme for the festival. The committee is determined to celebrate the festival this year.
It may be recalled that since the last two years, the government appointed committee led by PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar and MLA Lavoo Mamledar had been celebrating the Shigmo festival.
Last year, the court directed both the committees to celebrate the festival jointly, after the Ravi Naik group filed a petition in the High Court seeking justice stating that the government was not willing to allow them to celebrate the festival, and that its committee is 33 years old,
