VASCO: A special laboratory will be shifted from the Ponda sub district hospital to Chicalim Sub District Hospital by Wednesday evening.

This was disclosed by Chicalim Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr Rajendra Borkar, who said, “The main purpose to shift the laboratory to Chicalim hospital is that we are expecting Goan seafarers to come to the Mormugao area.”

He said, “We will need to check them for their COVID-19 status. Only after checking they will be allowed to enter the State. If they test negative for COVID-19, then they will be home quarantined. In case they test positive then they will be shifted to the isolation facility for further medical treatment”.

When questioned on Dengue preparedness, Dr Borkar said at present Health Department and State Government machinery have accorded priority to COVID-19 pandemic. On dengue issue, he said, “We will take necessary steps and measures before monsoon.”

Dr Borkar further said, “Cleanliness and sanitisation of areas is currently underway in municipal areas and this will help in curtailing dengue and malaria.”

When asked whether her team has taken any measures on dengue and other vector-borne diseases, Dr Rashmi Khandeparkar of the Urban Health Centre said due to the guidelines amidst COVOD-19, they cannot move around.
