PONDA: Ponda Sub District Hospital administered 5,748 COVID-19 vaccines from March 1 till Monday (April 12) said Medical Superintendent (MS) of Ponda Sub District Hospital Dr Vikas Kuvelkar.
He appealed, “More people should come forward for vaccination to stay safe from the pandemic.”
When asked the reason for recent hike in COVID cases Dr Kuvelkar said, “There is lack of fear among people. Further, they are fed up with the pandemic, there is negligence and not following the COVID guidelines has led to increase in cases and so people should at least vaccinate themselves to contain the pandemic.”
He said, “Since March 1 till date Ponda Sub District Hospital conducted COVID vaccination drive for people above age of 45 and so far 5,748 were given jabs. This includes second dose to some people. Per day, staff vaccinated around 150 people.
When asked about reactions of people, Dr Kuvelkar said that people are happy after receiving vaccine. There is no problem or side effect found among the people vaccinated so far.
He further stated that earlier we use to give dose after four weeks (one month) but now instead postpone the second does by two weeks that is after six weeks after latest research proved that giving second dose after six week increases the efficiency of vaccinated people.
He said, “Henceforth we are going to start the vaccination at various panchayat level and industrial estates. We have already started vaccination for workers at Kundaim Industrial Estate.”
Dr Kuvelkar said those who have been vaccinated should not believe that they are safe. They have to follow COVID guidelines even after vaccination. However, those who are vaccinated will have mild cases of COVID or less chances of getting infected and also will not required to get hospitalised. However, for safety all have to use mask even after vaccination.
He urged people not to spend more time in AC hall, car, to avoid journey, partying, limiting their visits to markets, crowded places etc.
