PONDA: The main 750 mm water pipeline from Opa Treatment Plant supplying water to various parts of Ponda Taluka was damaged at Curti on Saturday while drilling work was going on for laying gas pipe lines due to which water supply of Ponda Taluka remained affected on Saturday and will continue till Sunday.

Following this, the nearby four houses were flooded with water and mud silt damaging the household items.

PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar said, “The work to restore the damaged water supply line would begin Saturday night and water supply would be restored on Sunday.”

It is learnt that after the repairs at least 12 hours are needed to dry the concrete used for repairs.

After the locals informing to PWD Water Division officials, the water flow was stopped. Due to pressure of water, two electric poles got uprooted and rested on nearby trees.

While the water supply to entire Ponda Taluka was affected due to damage of pipeline, Panchawadi, Shiroda, Borim, Banastarim and Marcel areas got supply from alternative lines. This is because some parts of Borim gets water from Selaulim water treatment plant while Marcel area gets its water directly from water supply line to Panjim from Opa.
