Ponda taluka tops in suicide cases

PONDA: Ponda continues to top in suicide and unnatural cases in Goa. According to crime statistics maintained by the Ponda police, last year, the number of unnatural death cases was 134, but this year, it is 149. 
Unnatural deaths include suicide, bodies found on roadside, footpaths, drowning etc; and more than 50 percent of suicides were committed by non-Goans.
According to Ponda PI Harish Mardaikar, the suicides are mainly due to family dispute, illicit relation, domestic violence, unemployment, stress, and many other reasons. 
No rape case was reported this year compare; while five cases were reported last year.  
Last year, the fatal accidents were 20, but this year it was down to 15. Police also booked 37 cases for driving under influence of alcohol suspending their licence for three months, while one was in 15 days judicial custody.
