The recent arrest of four accused in a theft at a temple has not stopped burglars from targeting the Shree Maruthi temple at Varkhande-Ponda and decamping with religious items worth Rs 62,000.
The incident came to light on Saturday when the temple servant noticed the broken backdoor latch at round 5 am. The Ponda police pressed a police dog squad and fingerprint experts into service.
“Burglars took away items used in worship. All the copper and brass items which are used in the worship were taken away by the miscreants”, said Varkhandekar Mandal President Vithal Naik.
