No permit issued for liquor import from Daman: Sandip

The State Excise department has today said that it has not issued any permit for permit of liquor from Daman in last five years.
Media reports stated that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) unearthed Rs 340 cr excise scam which supplied unauthorised liquor to Goa & other states.
Speaking to Herald Excise commissioner Sandip Jacques said that he had initiated inquiry in the matter based on media reports.
“I have inquired with all permit issuing authorities and they have confirmed that no permit has been issued for import of liquor from Daman in last five years,” he said.
Jaques said that some scam is happening in the name of Goa there than it has to be definitely verified there.
“If CBI has raided and unearthed some scam than it is very good and we will provide all required support to take the case to logical conclusion,” he said adding “such things are tarnishing the image of the department as a whole.”
Incidentally the Finance secretary is also inquiring into the allegations made by Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar of Rs 40 crore finance scam in the import and export of liquor in the state. The commissioner meanwhile has also said he was ignorant of any raid by CBI on any distillery in Goa.
“If there was any such thing I would have come to know. I have spoken to all my assistant directors and they have no knowledge,” he said.
