MARCEL, JUNE 3
As part of annual pre-monsoon drive conducted by Goa Traffic Cell all over the State, the Ponda Traffic Cell began inspecting vehicles for its roadworthiness.
Vehicles are being checked for worn-out tyres, functioning of the wipers, headlights, tail lights, break lights and condition of the mud flaps. Vehicles failing in such a test were fined.
According to Ponda Traffic Cell, the drive will continue and is aimed at reducing mishaps.
Ponda Traffic Cell PI Salim Shaik informed that good tyres, lights and wipers are of utmost importance, especially during rains, and can avoid accidents.
“Worn-out tyres will easily skid the vehicle off the road and will result in an accident. Windscreen wipers are also very important for a better view of the road in rains, as visibility is reduced,” said PI Shaik.
“Besides, headlights, tail lights, break lights and even mud flaps are very essential,” added PI Shaik.
“We have fined vehicles that have failed in such tests. We are also concentrating on commercial vehicles like buses and goods carrier vehicles. Majority of the time in a day these vehicles are on road and can risk life of other road users. Tyres, windscreen wipers, headlights need to be in good condition or else can lead to mishaps,” said PI Shaik.
