PONDA: Ponda Traffic Cell during the year 2023 collected a total of Rs 2.70 crore in fines for various traffic violations from around 45,948 drivers. This is more than the fines collected in the year 2022 which was Rs 1.90 crore, deposited in government exchequer.
Traffic Cell PI Krishna Sinari said, in the year 2023 the traffic cell has also recommended to the RTO to suspend licences of a total of 6,380 drivers for various traffic violations.
In the year 2023 action has also been taken against 7,213 motorist for driving through ‘no entry’ roads.
In 2023, Ponda Traffic Police issued fines to 3,265 drivers for over speeding, 2514 riders for driving without helmet, 6515 for dangerous parking, 4733 car owners for using dark film and other traffic violations. A total of 201 cases were registered against people who were driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Traffic Cell PI said throughout the year, besides issuing fines, the traffic police creates traffic awareness, provides guidance to students at high schools and other places to create a sense of responsibility among drivers about their own safety and safety of other users including pedestrians.
He said traffic police are deployed at various places in Ponda area to take action against motorists who violate traffic rules, but still many people, including college students continue to break traffic rules.
