Ponda Traffic cell step up drive against drunk driving

PONDA: In the aftermath of the Banastarim accident and in a bid to curb drunken driving, the traffic cell of the Ponda police last week decided to act tough by keeping a check on drunken driving.

The Traffic Cell was provided eight new advanced alcometers and cops were stationed at strategic locations in Ponda and Dharbandora  talukas  to conduct random breathalyzer  tests to find out if those driving were doing so under the influence of alcohol.

In the last 6 days, the police have penalised nine motorists and produced them in the courts for driving under the influence of alcohol.

SP Bossuet Silva had promised to provide advanced alcometers to traffic police after inspecting the Banastarim tragedy.

On August 9, new alcometers were added in the fleet of Farmagudi police. Importantly, Farmagudi traffic police have registered cases against 82 drivers from January till August 16 .
