PONDA VENDORS ASSOCIATION SUBMITS MEMORANDUM TO PMC, URGES HALT ON OUT-OF-STATE VENDORS DURING FESTIVE SEASON

Ponda Vendors Association on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Ponda Municipal Council, seeking restriction on out-of-state vendors from selling their goods during the upcoming festive season.

The Ponda Vendors Association, representing a substantial number of local shopkeepers, vendors and traders, expressed concerns about the growing presence of vendors from other states during festive season. They contended that this influx of external vendors has negatively impacted the livelihoods of local businesses.

One of the members of the association, stated, “We have observed a steady increase in out-of-state vendors setting up shop in Ponda Market during the festive season. These external vendors often offer similar products at lower prices, creating unfair competition and diminishing our members’ earnings.”

The local vendors further said that they have been into these businesses for more than 45 years and their livelihood depend on it entirely. We wait for festive season throughout the year so as to sustain our business and livelihood, but if the authority allows migrant to captivate their traditional business it would be major injustice on Goan vendors. They further lamented that this will discourage their children to take up their age old business.

The Ponda Market Vendor Association has urged to strictly put a hault on out-of-state vendors during festive season in order to safeguard the interest of local businesses.
