NDA: A woman in Ponda lost Rs 80,000 after she fell prey to a YouTube video scam, which promised to double her ‘investment’.
Sources said the woman has a hobby of binge-watching YouTube videos and stumbled upon a video which promised to double the viewer’s money. The woman deposited Rs 80,000 in a bank account number mentioned in the video, without informing her husband. However, she realised her mistake after she did not receive the windfall returns, and told her husband about the con. He approached the Ponda police, who registered a complaint against unidentified scamsters.
The police told the couple that they have witnessed several similar cases in recent times.
