PONDA: Ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi Festival on 31 August, Pondaitees have called upon the traffic department to make special efforts to decongest the city as people flock to the market for shopping and also advised the cops to stop penalising at least during the festival period.

With no special arrangements for parking, people park their vehicles by the roadside and this results in traffic congestion during every Ganesh festival in Ponda.

Social worker Viraj Sapre said that there is already a rush to the market and additional police have to be posted to regulate the smooth flow of traffic.

“The police need to streamline traffic and decongest the city as people come to shop for matoli items. Traffic police should also refrain from penalising people as there are no parking arrangements done even during the festive season and cops are so busy issuing challans that they are oblivious to the traffic jams,” said Sapre and advised the men in uniform to streamline the follow of traffic in the market at least during the festive period.

Vishal Fadte said that Ponda is a small city and there was a need for the traffic police to make proper parking arrangements at the market.

Traffic PI Krishna Sinari said that additional forty policemen will be posted on shifts to regulate traffic in the city and added that provisions for parking have also been made at the approach road beside the basement of the Market complex.
