PONDA: Raising serious concerns over the recent fatalities on killer roads in Ponda taluka, the general public has called upon the government to ensure the safety of road users by widening the National Highway and narrow roads.
Vishal Fadte, a social worker from Ponda said there are several dangerous spots where fatal accidents have often been reported. The GVM Circle, Bythokhol Junction, Dhavlim-Farmagudi bypass, besides sharp turns and narrow internal roads in Ponda taluka pose dangers to motorists.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Cell has identified four dangerous blind spots along the NH from Ponda and Dharbandora which are the main causes of fatal accidents.
The Traffic Cell said that the government needs to widen
the roads, install proper signboards, speed breakers and rumbler strips.
Traffic PI Krishna Sinari said that after each accident, the traffic cell inspects the accident site and recommends safety measures to improve roads to the government, NHAI and PWD.
He said that the four blind spots on NH include the entire stretch in Dharbandora taluka upto Anmod Ghat, Manaswada to Bhoma Banastarim, Usgao
to Borim and Connem-Priol to Farmagudi.
He said the road on Dharbandora Highway needs to be widened. At Usgao, the roadside parking of trucks poses danger to motorists, while in Bhoma, the roads are narrow, Connem-Farmagudi road has sharp turns, which leads to accidents.
PI Sinari said that to prevent fatal accidents, safety norms need to be followed. People should stop driving their vehicles in a rash and negligent manner and that too under the influence of alcohol.
The above suggestions have been made following the recent horrific accident at Banastarim wherein a speeding Mercedes snuffed out three innocent lives and left three others injured and the latest incident wherein a bus fell into nullah killing driver on spot and leaving nine seriously injured at Dharbandora.
